SONSBEEK'16: transACTION

Curator: ruangrupa (Indonesia)

SONSBEEK '16: transACTION, by collective ruangrupa (Jakarta, Indonesia) was characterized by engagement with the city and interaction with residents, initiatives, and visitors. This started a year earlier with the opening of the 'ruru house' in an empty shop in the centre of Arnhem where many different activities took place such as lectures and cooking workshops. In addition, visitors were invited with 'open calls' to actually use the works in Park Sonsbeek; to celebrate their birthday, to perform etc. Artistic interventions were realised at three locations: in Park Sonsbeek, Museum Arnhem and Arnhem City. 45 artists from 22 countries realised 17 installations in the park; 7 murals, 4 installations and one parade in the centre; one installation in Museum Bronbeek, an exhibition in Museum Arnhem (transHISTORY: this is my truth, tell me yours) and performances. In addition, there were close collaborations with Arnhem initiatives such as De Nieuwe Oost, Focus Filmtheater, Motel Spatie and Code Rood, and collaboration with ArtEZ and DAi, a symposium and an editorial program. The edition was a success with praising reviews in the (inter)national press and over 100,000 visitors.
