The loss of meaning that takes place in the modernist binaries of nature and culture, intuition and reason forms an important theme in Laure Prouvost’s (1978, France) work. Her works resonate with significant scientific, philosophical, and psychoanalytic theories of the mid-twentieth century, such as those of psychoanalyst Melanie Klein, exploring the core aspects of human emotional development as manifested through our relationship to external objects. Prouvost’s work also shares common ground with the philosophical works of Simone de Beauvoir, particularly on the subject of the recognition of human ambiguity in the experience of freedom.
