In this essay, Stedelijk research staff contextualise the life and work of artist and composer Sedje Hémon within the culture and thinking of her time. The essay shows that although initially it was trauma that forced her artistry to transcend disciplines, her multidisciplinarity became a lifelong intellectual and artistic endeavour.
