Shenece Oretha’s reworked iteration of the live performance ‘Here, Present’ is an exercise in remembrance for sonsbeek. This work demands of us to listen deeply in more affective register(s). Against a backdrop of enchanting voices that morph into a sonic holding space for the names that Oretha calls upon and amplifies through this work, this powerful act of naming names of the living, the invisible, the present, the seen and the forgotten Black beings is not only important as a political act of knowing each other, but it also characterises this work as a ceremony that brings forward the poetics of embodied remembrance.
